Mid Sussex District Council is delighted to announce that ShopAppy.com is coming to Mid Sussex

MSDC Press Release — 9th February 2022

Mid Sussex District Council has partnered with ShopAppy.com to provide local businesses with access to the platform free of charge for the first 12 months. This initiative has been made possible by the Government’s Welcome Back Fund with funding from the European Regional Development Fund.

Hear more from ShopAppy below, about the platform and how your business can benefit and get involved.

What is ShopAppy?

ShopAppy.com is a ‘Shop and Support Local Business’ website, making it easier than ever for people to browse, book and buy from their local businesses at their convenience.

ShopAppy believe that it shouldn’t be easier to shop with a warehouse in the middle of nowhere, than it is to shop with the businesses on your doorstep. ShopAppy’s mission isn't to create more online shoppers but to create a community of local shoppers that can opt to shop in the way they choose.

Sadly, high streets are under threat and physical spend has been moving online.  This has been accelerated by Covid-19 with £3 in every £5 now being spent with larger online retailers.

ShopAppy.com provides a platform to showcase the products, services and hospitality available from lovely independent businesses in the Mid Sussex area – a one-stop-local-online-shop!  And because ShopAppy is search optimized, local people will find your business easily.

At ShopAppy.com we want to make it as easy as possible for businesses to get on board. The vendor dashboard is extremely easy to use and the ShopAppy.com team is always on hand to help. ShopAppy don't take any commissions on sales only passing on a card processing fee of 2%.

One of ShopAppy’s shop owners said, “Our net sales since starting with ShopAppy have increased by 82%. This is despite a reduction in footfall associated with Covid-19. Our new customers like the easy checkout and the ability to place advance orders.  Uploading to ShopAppy is a simple process, and the support staff are fantastic.” Owner - The Little Refill Shop

Businesses who would like to find out more and sign up to the free 12-month ShopAppy Mid Sussex promotion can contact Jane Stewart at [email protected] or call her on 07770 655 302.

Jane and her team will be ringing businesses in the area over the next few weeks, to help get your business registered.

Preparing for Storms Dudley and Eunice due to hit the South East on 16th February

Advice — 16th February 2022

Message from UK Power Networks:

As you may be aware, UK Power Networks manages the local power lines and substations which distribute electricity to over 8.3m homes and businesses across London, the South East and the East of England.

Storm Dudley will arrive on Wednesday 16th and is forecast to have a minimal impact on our network. However, Storm Eunice is expected to arrive on Friday 18th and is expected to bring stronger winds and unsettled weather.

Our electricity network is built to be resilient but strong winds and heavy rain can bring down branches and trees, damaging overhead power lines. Where this happens we work to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.

We have organised for additional staff in our contact centre and more engineers on the ground, particularly for Storm Eunice, to be available to help customers whose electricity supply might be affected by the predicted weather.

Businesses and residents will be able to find regular updates and information about individual power cuts on our website www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk. We will also be posting general updates on @UKPowerNetworks.

Anyone experiencing a power cut should:

  • Visit www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk/powercut and type in their postcode to view our live power cut map, with details of individual power cuts
  • Call 105 free of charge to speak to our customer service team, report a power cut or damage to the electricity network
  • Tweet @UKPowerNetworks to report a power cut or to receive updates
  • Visit www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk for the latest updates

We advise people to stay clear of power lines and report damaged power lines immediately by calling 105 free from either a landline or a mobile phone. If they see electricity lines that are down or causing significant risk to the public they should call 999.

We provide extra help to customers on our Priority Service Register during a power cut.  Households with older or disabled people, those with children under five, or where someone uses medical or mobility equipment that requires electricity as well as other reasons can join the register.  You can find out more information about our Priority Service on our website: ukpowernetworks.co.uk/priority.

Do you, or someone you know, need extra support during a power cut? @UKPowerNetworks provides free services to customers in vulnerable circumstances during a power cut. Visit ukpowernetworks.co.uk/priority for more information. #StormEunice #ukpnnews
