Biodiversity Action Plan 2025-30
The 2023 State of Nature report reveals a 19% average decline in UK species since 1970, with significant losses across birds, amphibians, fungi, and mammals, confirming the UK as one of the most nature-depleted countries globally. Fragmented habitats are unsustainable, but there's growing recognition of the essential role ecosystems play in health, well-being, and the economy. Encouragingly, more regional projects are focusing on landscape connectivity. Cuckfield’s Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) will initially target Parish Council-owned land but aims to expand, improving ecological links and involving broader community participation. Actions are expected to begin in 2025, with a target completion around 2030.
