**REOPENING ON 24TH MARCH 2020**

The Post Office is returning to Cuckfield at the Queen's Hall, High Street.

Nearly 18 months since the closure of the Post Office on the High Street, I am delighted to announce that thanks to the enormous efforts of Cuckfield Parish Council the Post Office service is to return to the village.

The Parish Council have agreed to offer the use of the Queen's Hall free of charge on 2 days a week:

Tuesday 9.30am - 1.30pm
Thursday 9.30am - 1.30pm

The Post Office Counter will be set up in the bar area of the hall, immediately in front of the kitchen area.

This service will only remain if it is profitable to do so, so please - use your Post Office!

Most services you will find at a High Street Post Office will be available here for you to use, including postage, parcels, application forms and banking.

It was only a few days ago that we reminded you that Storm Ciara was on the way. Just in case you did not act then, Storm Dennis will bring strong winds over the weekend, so now is another good time to act. What to expect? Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely Some short term loss of power and other services is possible It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves Storm Dennis is also expected to bring very heavy rain, flooding and disruption to travel over the weekend. There is an amber warning for rain in our area.  UK Power Networks own and run the electricity cables in most of Sussex, London and the South East, and fix power cuts. Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks does the same in some areas towards the West of the County. They deliver the electricity which you buy through your choice of supplier. They provide a free priority service for anyone who might face extra difficulty in the event of a power cut, including households with an elderly person, young children, someone less mobile or someone with a health condition.    By registering with your distributor you will be given a priority 24-hour phone number for communication, receive extra information and regular updates during any power cut. In the event of a longer power cut you could receive hot food, hot drinks and hot water, mobile phone charging and more. Sussex Police has welcomed an annual inspection report published today by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS).
The report reflects an inspection from nearly a year ago, in April 2019, and HMICFRS recognise the progress the force has already made against their findings.
The Inspectorate found that Sussex Police is effective at reducing crime and keeping people safe and in how it treats the public and its workforce.
While the report acknowledges that Sussex Police has improved its ability to identify vulnerable people and that officers and staff assess vulnerability well, it has asked for further improvements in this area and in its efficiency overall.
The inspection team found that the force:
has a clear plan for neighbourhood policing with on-going investment in increasing its presence in local communities and in its investigative capabilities
has a good understanding of public demand, including uncovering ‘hidden demand’, and at planning future demand using innovative technology but could do more to address current lower risk issues
is ethical and good at treating its employees and the public fairly

Police arrested a man within minutes of a report of an armed robbery at a post office in Burgess Hill and an attempted robbery of a woman.
Officers were called to the Worlds End Post Office in Leylands Road, Burgess Hill, to a report of a man threatening the shop worker with a knife after demanding he had over a bottle of alcohol at 7.53pm on Monday (10 February). The suspect fled while police were searching for him they received another report that the suspect had tried to rob a woman earlier in St Wilfreds Road. No one was hurt in both incidents, a 23 year Old man from Crawley has been arrested on suspicion of robbery, attempted robbing and assaulting a police officer and possession of cannabis. He has been released on bail until 9th March.  We would still like to hear from anyone who witnesses either of the two incidents. Please report online or ring 101 quoting serial1371 of 10/02.

Dyno-Rod scam
Sussex Police has received a high volume of reports relating to doorstep callers and telephone callers claiming to be from Dyno-Rod, with West Sussex and Brighton and Hove residents mainly targeted.
A man knocks on the victim’s door, claims to be from Dyno-Rod, and suggests there is a drainage issue in the area that needs fixing. The man then asks for payment to supply equipment or fix the drainage issue. Often the suspect asks for bank cards rather than cash or cheque. Some of the victims have given bank cards to these men who have then used them to withdraw thousands of pounds.
In some cases, victims have received a telephone call first stating there is a drainage problem and then had a courier attend their address to collect money or bank cards.
In one case, a 63 year old man from Brighton received a call from a man claiming to be from the council. The caller suggested there was a problem with the sewage system in the street and asked the victim to pay for two machines from Dyno-Rod to fix the issue. The caller told the victim if he didn’t pay there would be further problems and blockages. This phone call was followed up by a doorstep caller claiming to be from Dyno-Rod who asked for the payment. The victim handed him £800 never to see the man again.
